The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium is planning a trip to the Polar Bear Capital of the World, and you’re invited.
Join curator Henry Kacpryzk for a seven-day, six night adventure from Nov. 3-9, 2012 in Churchill, Canada. Experience several nights in the Tundra Buggy Lodge, sleeping while polar bear roam outside. Enjoy a day in Churchill with fun activities including dog-sledding, museum trips, and shopping excursions. The first 10 people to book the trip will receive a special polar bear encounter here at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium.
In addition to viewing wild polar bears in their natural environment, guests will experience Churchill’s unique culture and rich history!

Sample Itinerary
Nov. 3
· Arrive into Winnipeg via own arrangements.
· Evening meet n greet with your Frontiers North Interpretive Guide. They will distribute departure packages, go over the itinerary, and answer any questions that guests may have.
· Overnight in Winnipeg at an airport property hotel (typically the Four Points by Sheraton)Nov. 4
· Early morning flight to Churchill (a light breakfast will be served on
board)
· Upon arrival, we will immediately depart on a Churchill and area tour. A guided bus tour of local and historical points of interest surrounding Churchill, including such attractions as Cape Merry, Port of Churchill and Manitoba Conservation’s Polar Bear Holding Facility (weather
permitting).
· After lunch, group will visit the Eskimo Museum, which contains one of Canada’s finest collections of Inuit carvings, kayaks and artifacts dating from pre- Dorset, Dorset, Thule, and modern Inuit times.
· The afternoon will also include a stop at the Parks Canada Interpretive Center. Walk back in time viewing detailed and exciting wildlife dioramas, fur trade exhibits. View a series of videos on the history, culture and wildlife of the area. You leave chock-full of natural and historical information from the Churchill region.

· Breakfast
· This morning, the group will take part in a dog sledding excursion. Hosted by a local resident and dog sledding expert, group will learn about the history associated with dog sledding in Northern Canada. Enjoy an exhilarating ride behind a strong team of huskies on a custom-made sled (or cart, weather permitting). Join the mushers for hot chocolate and freshly made bannock after your ride and share their personal stories of their dog sledding adventures.
· Lunch
· We will have some free time in the afternoon to explore Churchill and do some shopping before our transfer out to Tundra Buggy Lodge.
· Enjoy a slow trek to the lodge. Providing opportunity to view, photograph, and learn about Polar Bears, other arctic wildlife and the environment.
· Dinner
· Overnight Tundra Buggy LodgeNov. 6-7
· The next two days will be spent out on the tundra. After breakfast, you will head out on the Tundra Buggy, away from the lodge, searching for Polar Bears and other wildlife. Evenings will be spent enjoying delicious home cooked meals, watching video/slide presentations and socializing. Watch the night sky for Northern Lights.
· Overnight Tundra Buggy Lodge.Nov. 8
· After breakfast, the group will depart the lodge, participating on the last Tundra Buggy expedition, meandering slowly along the way. Upon arrival at launch, you will be transferred directly to the airport.
· Evening flight back to Winnipeg (a light dinner will be served on

· Depart Winnipeg at leisure There is the option for guests to add on a one-hour helicopter tour to their adventure. It travels out to Cape Churchill, and you are guaranteed to see Polar Bears!
